Federal Minimum Wage Should Be Raised - 877 Words
Recently, the call to raise the Federal minimum wage has gotten stronger. Some states have taken the initiative recently to raise their state minimum wage above the federal guidelines. Currently someone who makes $7.25 an hour working full time under the Federal minimum wage earns $15,080 annually before any taxes are taken out. Critics of the proposal to increase federal minimum wage believe that increased labor costs force businesses to cut jobs to make up for the decrease in profit (Mejeur). However, others believe an increase in federal minimum wage to even $9 an hour would impact 700,000 workers in North Caroline alone and have a positive GDP (Gross Domestic Product) impact of $495 million, which would help to grow the economy nationwide (Schoenbach). The federal minimum wage should be raised so that adults would not need to rely on government assistance programs to live above the poverty line. Raising the federal minimum wage allows individuals to be able to provide for themse lves and their families without the need for some type of government assistance. Ancient Egypt Narmers Palette Essay Example For Students
Ancient Egypt Narmers Palette Essay As Egypt grew and flourished to a powerful and rich nation, itleft behind for todayââ¬â¢s historians, clues and artifacts of a oncedistinctive, well established and structured society. Proof ofthis is clearly depicted in king Narmerââ¬â¢s Palette. This Paletteshows historians the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt, whichsignified the beginnings of a civilized era centred around theNile. The unification of Egypt occurred around 3100 B.C., under theFirst Dynasty of Menes(3100-2850 B.C.). This age is commonly knowas the Protodynastic era, which is known for the establishment ofa firm political structure of the land which was unified in thehands of the king. The glorification of Lower and Upper Egyptuniting was portrayed in Narmerââ¬â¢s Palette, which was found in theancient southern capital of Hierakonpolis. The general function ofNarmerââ¬â¢s Palette was to commemorate a victory over his human foes. With Narmerââ¬â¢s victory, the Palette also depicts his successfulclaim and conquest of all of Egypt, thus establishing unificationof Lower and Upper Egypt under his rule. The dominant themhowever, is the victory of the god incarnate over the forces ofevil and chaos. The Narmer Palette, while depicting several social aspects andtendencies of the Egyptian society, also reveals and emphasizestheir structured positions within a hierarchy of command. Bothsides of the Palette reveal, at the top, the name of king Narmer, which first documents, in the written history of Egypt, that we noware dealing with a civilized state. When the scribes wanted towrite king Narmerââ¬â¢s name, they placed a small fish called a ââ¬Ënarââ¬â¢over a chisel, pronounced ââ¬Ëmerââ¬â¢. This combination of the wordsgave them ââ¬ËNarmerââ¬â¢. The Palette also depicts king Narmer(probablythe legendary Menes) wearing the Red Crown of Lower Egypt and theWhite Crown of Aphroditopolis, which represented Upper Egypt. Since Narmer had claimed victory over the northern king, thusbecoming the first Pharaoh, the unification of Egypt was completed. The reverse of the Palette portrays Narmer clubbing a foeman. Narmer is then followed by his foot-washer, which should be notedis shown on a smaller scale and standing on a separate registerline, as suited to his relative rank and position in Egyptââ¬â¢shierarchy. Narmer stands before the supreme sky-god Horus, of whomNarmer is also an incarnation, represented as a falcon with a humanarm holding a papyrus thicket. On the obverse of this palette, Narmer inspects a battlefieldnear Buto, with several decapitated bodies of his foemen. Narmeris then preceded by his four standard-bearers and his priest. Themiddle register of this highly organized recording shows two long-necked lionesses and their attendants, symbolizing the newlyestablished unification of Egypt. In the lower register Narmer isin disguise of a bull, which is destroying a fortified fort andkilling any opponents in his path. The Narmer Palette reveals several important social aspectsabout how the Egyptians lived and were structured. The Palettealso shows their value in recording historical events with suchitems of war and political power struggles being ââ¬Ënewsworthyââ¬â¢events. It would be a mistake however, to read the Narmer Paletteas a mere tale of conquest. Through military conquests however,Narmer was able to lay the political foundations of the kingshipwhich endured thereafter as long as a Pharaoh wore the two crownsof Egypt. The actual finding of a Palette proves that Egyptianshad established a written form of communication, which is todaycalled hieroglyphic script. The Palette however, was depicted byEgyptian scribes using a complex combination of ideograms andphonetic signs. While king Narmerââ¬â¢s name appears as hieroglyphiclabels at the top of the Palette, it emphasizes that Egypt at thistime was structured and had firmly established a civilized state. .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .postImageUrl , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:hover , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:visited , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:active { border:0!important; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:active , .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uecbcb92593909ee1d2b9fc694c07506b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Peace is the sturdy child of terror. Itwas used for military campaigns, economic trading, and as a form ofcommunication via boats. The Nile also provided a rich soil basewhich encouraged farmers to build huts and plant their crops alongthe river bank. Egyptian agriculture and the farmersââ¬â¢ practices inirrigation revealed that the Egyptians had the man power andcapabilities to divert water to particular fields for their crops. Although each community along the Nile was divided into districts, each governed by a man appointed by Narmer, each practised the samemethods of collecting and diverting water. Also each manappointed to a particular district saw to it that taxes werecollected and that the fields were drained and properly irrigated. The most significant piece of evidence that suggests that Egypt wasindeed a civilized state was a special calendar with a 365-dayyear, as well as keeping records of special events and a system ofstandard measures for surveying fields and dividing produce. While Egyptians were basically confined to the Nile valley, they were able to draw many strengths from their isolation. Fromthe beginning the Egyptians looked to a central authority in theperson of a king, or god, which was all held together and relatedto the Nile river. While king Narmer was able to bring economicgrowth and political stability to the newly formed Egypt, he wasunable to control the external pressures which would eventuallybreak up Egypt and lead to the collapse of the ruling Pharaohs.

As we know that there has been an increase in the difference among the cultures so there is a need to have knowledge about the cross-cultures. To have a better understanding for culture, various models are discussed in the form of dimensions. The motive of this study is to find out the relevance of culture dimension whether they are important for the international business or not. The study not only looks at the case study of Alizee airlines but also to many other aspects related to it. There are multiple sources that are interrelated to analytical research of the topic that will put light on the importance of study of cross culture for the internationalization of business. In this study many countries cultures are compared to have a better understanding of the same. Firstly, there is a discussion about the cultures and its dimensions with the examples, the criticism related to the study is also mentioned, the dimensions, and at last the research method that are used in the study is also mentioned. These dimensions and methods are used in the entire report for the better presentation. As we know that dimensions are very important for very business so those importance of dimensions are also discussed below. With the case study of Alizee airlines and other illustrations related to it are connected to the article. An analysis of the case study is performed to give clarity to the report. There are similarities and differences are also mentioned in between the cultures of the countries like Malaysia, Brazil and USA. At last all the dots are connected and summarization of all the data is provided through conclusion. GLOBE Studys cultural dimensions analysis The GLOBE The globe refers to The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness research program. It is one of the works in the world of dimensions that was initiated to know the relation between society, culture, and organization and leader effectiveness to the organizations. This is one of the long term programs that include four parts. Those parts are visualization, functionalist ion, validation and integration of the cross-culture theory. Firstly, there is a need to categorize the cultures related to the globe. For his the investigators and researchers made a range related to the dimensions in which six ranges are created. These ranges are identified and originated by Hofstede model of culture dimensions. The globe has developed and created in total 9 dimensions that are made through the practice of the society (as is) and values (should be) in the various setting of the culture (Harris Moran, 1996). These two dimensions are helping to identify and investigate the similarities and the differences in the beliefs, values, norms, practices, etc. that lies in the society. Respondents question are asked to do this activity of investigation. In order to have real investigation, the questions are asked to the representatives of the country and not with the multinational employees of the company. In the publication of the globe, the ranks and scores are the published of each country. There after a cluster of culture is made to divided according to the pats and similarities. The globe is one of the criticized as it is at initial stage. It is not entirely tested study as compared to other study. Its study is performed on multi-disciplinary function and it also provides this advantage to the globe. It comprises of 160 scholars that belongs to 62 different cultures of the world in which some of them are the country co-investigators (CCIs). These CCIs are known about the cross-cultures and th ey also conduct many qualitative and quantitative researches like interviews of individuals focus groups etc. to do their studies and researches (Hooker, 2009). Relevance of cultural dimensions according to the globe study- The study is very relevant for Alizee as it is enhancing the online behaviors of consumers and non-consumers of the Alizee airlines. In this research, the cultural differences faced by the organizations are discussed, also the cultural variations that create impact on the consumers interactions with the help of digital channels, and it also stimulates the Malaysia, Brazil and USA markets for the Alizee airline industry are mentioned (Wolf, 1997). Under this study, the main aim is to provide the approaches of cultural based perspective and the effectiveness of cross-culture that can be applied in the different markets. In this research the objective of the researchers is to provide an effective cultural based perspective to the Alizee airlines that can be directly or indirectly implied or applied (Peterson Sndergaard, 2008). There are three main markets of Alizee that were stated before. So the research is done to study the difference in these different markets that inspire changes and then applied to other markets. It is relevant to study the cultural differences of the markets as the dimensions help the company to increase the efficiency of online operations. It is also recommended that Alizee have to keep track on the dimensions of culture and online operations so that Alizee come to know that what they do and what other companies are doing. It is also recommend that Alizees practice must be examined and make a comparison between profiles of cultures of the countries (Burke, 2010). The need is to have an in-depth knowledge which is relevant for all the organizations that are globalized. The globe and Hofstede are the models that have helped to seek the attention and give relevance of cross-culture study to the organizations. This study has a great relevancy in the future as it will help many organizations to globalize themselves. While Reading Cyrano De Bergerac, I Found Myself Often Wondering Wheth
While reading Cyrano de Bergerac, I found myself often wondering whether or not Cyrano had led a happy life. Actually, I never once wondered that, but that is irrelevant, because Cyranos happiness is the focus of this essay. Was he happy? Truth be told, I cannot say for sure. If we look upon his life, it would seem that he was a bit of a martyr, always sacrificing his happiness for the sake of others. This is probably the case, but I do not believe that he led his life with his happiness as any sort of goal. That will be a defining case in my argument. What I really believe is that he simply did not care about his happiness. In that sense, he did not so much sacrifice it, as he annexed and divided it when he saw fit. To a further extent, this apathy towards himself probably came from a low self-worth, almost certainly spawned not from his elephantine nose, but the fair maiden Roxanne. Finally, the nose itself, the very icon of de Bergerac, was probably not the problem that Cyrano bel ieved it to be. All of this, however obscure it may seem, is crucial to the question posed of me now. Cyranos happiness was not viewed by him with either a favor or a goal. I cannot believe that Cyrano cared about his own happiness whatsoever. Really, that apathy would probably be the only way that he could emotionally accept his dangerously selfless undertakings. Case in point, his giving of Roxanne to the incredibly undeserving Christian. No real happiness in that action. Roxanne and Christians, maybe, but certainly not his own, and he loved Roxanne. Had Cyrano actually wanted to be happy, the pangs of grief that he would feel as he gave her away would certainly have ripped him apart. But if Cyrano convinced himself that he did not care about his own happiness, then it would at least take the edge off of those bitter emotions that surely plagued his soul whenever he saw his loves face. This triggered diffidence, with all the sacrifice that Cyrano made, may have been the only defense mechanism that he had. Continuing on from Cyranos carelessness for his happiness, we may easily make a jump to his sense of self-worth. Any man who would sacrifice his own love, thus, his entire world, for the sake of his rival cannot have a concern for himself. Cyrano cared for his own fate much like he cared for his enjoyment. That is to say, not at all. He did not feel that he deserved such things as the love of a beautiful woman, or the approval of his peers. Those things were not for him, so he believed. But, with his ideas of reward, I really must wonder. Suppose the one he loved was not so fair, not so charming, and not so damned selective about her partners appearance? Could not Roxanne herself be at some fault for Cyranos incredibly low sense of self worth? Cyrano believed that Roxanne would find him repulsive, what with his nose, should he try to court her. He was right, you know. Do you really think that Roxanne would have accepted Cyranos poetry as valid, much less been able to read it without being influenced by his appearance? Thats doubtful, considering he had to filter his verse through dull-witted Christian before Roxanne would accept such things. Had the object of his affection been a tick less picky about appearance, Cyrano might have not felt so badly about his own appearance. As it is, he was never given that chance. The nose. No matter what chain of reasoning you follow from Cyrano, it always leads back to his nose. That prominent barricade of flesh and cartilage, always in his path. Was it really? Cyranos nose truly did prevent him from attaining a relationship with Roxanne, but, from this, he applied rejection to most everything else. The nose, quite possibly, was only a real barrier because Cyrano made it so. The only ones who thought less of Cyrano for his nose were arrogant fools, much like Roxanne, whom were quickly and efficiently dispatched. But, Cyrano still let his shrunken ego

Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys Essays
Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys Essays Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys Essay Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys Essay Application Paper Why Good Girls like bad boys? Just about every woman at some point in her dating life will fall for a bad boy. For example thereââ¬â¢s Edward and Bella from the Twilight Series and thereââ¬â¢s Uncle Jesse from Full House. A bad boy is a thug, a roughneck and a rebel without a cause or he could be the nice guy next door whoââ¬â¢s smooth as silk, but deep down inside heââ¬â¢s a cold hearted person. Bad boys are the type of guys your mom warns you about but because theyââ¬â¢ve got thug appeal your common sense goes out the window. If you ask most females why they like bad boys itââ¬â¢s because they like the challenge, the excitement and the thrill of living vicariously. According to evolutionary reasoning, the isolation of male and female species is not to mate but due to their reactions to each other. This occurs in many animals because the female animal becomes attracted to the male animal that stands out the most of all the other males. For example peacockââ¬â¢s spread their wings making themselves more vulnerable to predators as a sort of way to attract the opposite sex. Peacockââ¬â¢s are risking their lives which show how strong and dedicated they are towards standing out and being above all the other peacocks. Women find security, resources, and signs of commitment and long-term mates attractive while men find youth, fertility, and chastity and short-term mates attractive. Distance is also a major factor for women and even animals whether itââ¬â¢s close or faraway. For a typical bad boy and a good girl it is usually the good girl who really wants to make the first approach but doesnââ¬â¢t because sheââ¬â¢s afraid of what he may think of her. And for the bad boy he just continues to stand out but if neither one is able to approach the other then the attraction would just end at that. I believe that there is four reasons why good girls like bad boys. The first one is the secret fear of intimacy. If a girl is attracted to guys who they cannot really have it is because they donââ¬â¢t want a real relationship. Girls find a bad boy so appealing because they can be with him without ever letting him get too close. This is related to the attachment theory. Because these girls havenââ¬â¢t had a father figure in their life they have an anxious/ambivalent attachment to the guy. This is because the girl is characterized by a concern that others will not reciprocate oneââ¬â¢s desire for intimacy. Secondly, it could be that itââ¬â¢s a subconscious wish to bring daddy back home. As you already know the relationship you had with your father shapes the relationships you will have with other males. Growing up without a father or if he father wasnââ¬â¢t emotionally available can be a girls reason for wanting to find someone who can fill that void. The third reason is low self esteem. If a girl is in a relationship with a guy who lies, cheats, talks down to them, then they do not feel good about themselves. When people feel good about themselves they set standards about what they want in life. Lastly, is media brainwashing. The media has brainwashed so many people in our society. For example, the Jerry Springer Show or the latest music videos, in these you can see how the media portrays the bad boy image as every girlââ¬â¢s dream. Popular television and music videos try to make you believe that it is acceptable for guys to disrespect females and reduce them as sex objects and nothing more. In class we read an experiment, Dutton Aron Experiment: Some Evidence for Heightened Sexual Attraction Under Conditions of High Anxiety. The experiment showed that fear and arousal are linked. The same part of the brain is activated, the amygdala. There was an experimental bridge which was a small, rickety ridge that easily swayed and was located 230 feet above a shallow river with pointed rocks. Then there was also a control bridge which was a much wider, more stable, and stronger bridge which was located 10 feet above a relatively safe looking river. Males who crossed either bridge were approached by an attractive female and asked to fill out a questionnaire. The males were then given the femaleââ¬â¢s phone number. The attraction was measured by how many males called the females. On the experimental bridge 50% of the males called the female and on the control bridge 12% of the males called the female. Bad boys are seen as rebels: they get into fights, ride motorcycles, have enemies, etc. and being with fearful men creates fear and anxiety, which leads to arousal.
